Uma Sweater (EN)
Uma Sweater is an oversized top-down sweater with the option of a high or folded neckline. The construction combines European shoulders and raglan shaping, meaning the upper sleeves are worked together with the upper body – so you don’t have to pick up stitches for sleeves later.
The back is worked first with increases at the edges. Then, stitches are picked up for each shoulder and shaped with increases along the neckline. Next, stitches are picked up for the sleeve cap, which is shaped with short rows along the sides. The work is joined on the same needle, and the front, sleeve cap, and the back are worked together in the round with raglan increases. The sleeves are then placed on hold while the body is completed. After that, the sleeves are worked in the round, and finally, a twisted rib neckband is added – either short and folded, or tall for a turtleneck version. Sleeve cuffs and neckline are finished with twisted rib and an Italian bind-off.
